Hertford Castle opened up with a first end 3 shot count followed by a single. Royston won the next three ends but were restricted to 1 shot per end. The Hertford Castle four then put together a six end scoring run including a 4 and a 3 to lead 15-3 at the half way stage.
Royston came back strongly, winning six of the next eight ends and with three ends to play Hertford Castle's lead had been reduced to 3 shots. With the other rink trailing, Hertford Castle needed to finish strongly and scored on each of the remaining ends to win by 7 shots.

The first seven ends of this game were tightly contested with scoring limited to single shots and Royston just ahead at 4-3. Royston then won the next four ends, scoring a particularly telling 4 shot count on the 9th end. After eleven ends, Hertford Castle trailed by 9 shots.
Royston's lead was extended with a 2 and a 3 on the 13th and 14th ends and, at that point, led 17-4. The Hertford Castle four fought valiantly to reduce the deficit, winning five of the last seven ends. Combined with the strong finish of their colleagues on the other rink, Hertford Castle entered the last end needing 3 shots to push the match to an extra end but only managed to score a single.
